
Biosketch: L. Gwenn Volkert, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of Computer Science and a graduate faculty member in the School of Biomedical Sciences at Kent State University. Dr. Volkert received her Ph.D. from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, in 2001, in Computer Science. Since joining KSU she has been an active researcher in the area of computational intelligence approaches to bioinformatics, with an emphasis on developing applications for protein analysis. Additional areas of interest include microarray analysis, evolutionary biology, and theory of computation. Dr. Volkert is serving as a Technical chair for the 2006 and Program chair for the 2007 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CIBCB). Prior to joining academia, she designed and directed the development of factory floor automation systems for the automotive industry.
